Tight space, dark colors, and a well-worn feel from the 1970’s is the look that greeted visitors when they came to this home that was originally built for a retirement community. To get this kitchen out of its time warp, the homeowner’s hired Judy to help them see their way out of the darkness and into a light, bright, and contemporary space.
The first order of business was to visually open up the 8ft. x 10ft. u-shaped kitchen to make room for two cooks and the active lifestyle of a young family. By moving the kitchen into the dead space of the entry hall and joining the two spaces, Judy was able to create a more open floor plan, change the configuration of the kitchen, and give the homeowners some much needed movability and room to grow.
Bold granite and warm cabinetry highlight this contemporary and dynamic space. Mimicking the rhythm of the stone, the dramatic curve of the seating area gives this kitchen space perfect movement and flow. By using key placement of cabinets, the kitchen has ample storage while feeling clean, light, and open. A beautiful and functional wet bar area completes this incredible kitchen transformation.
